Gainesboro Considering Speeding Camera Purchase After PD Request

The Gainesboro Police Department wants the town’s Board of Aldermen to consider high-speed cameras to combat speeders.

Assistant Chief Mickey Smith said the equipment would be able to identify plate numbers of speeding vehicles.

“They’re not the license plate readers that write tickets or logs them,” Smith said. “These are high-speed camera that recognize tags that I would like to put down here in the city to catch these cars we have trouble with.”

Smith said the camera is portable, so the department could move the equipment to keep drivers guessing. Smith said the cost would be about $8,000. Mayor Lloyd Williams said the purchase would be worth considering.
