Sparta city employees’ purchasing limits have been increased to save on time and gas.

City Administrator Brad Hennessee said employees used to be limited to $100. Hennessee said when a material or tool exceeds that amount, workers had to come to city hall for approval.

“They don’t have to bring it to me the way they’ve had to in the past,” Hennessee said. “We anticipate this will affect the public works department more than the others. They buy more of the day to day items.”

Hennessee said city workers can now make purchases up to $250. Hennessee said department heads can spend up to $1000. Hennessee said receipts are still required to ensure responsible spending.

“All they have to have is a receipt,” Hennessee said. “From 250 to 1000, they have to have three quotes, but they don’t have to bring it to me.”

“This is a continuation of what we’ve talked about in previous meetings,” Hennessee said.
