Cookeville Police To Get New Department Gear

Cookeville Police was approved to get new gear for the department.

Chief Randy Evans said that the brand new purchases include 73 protective masks for some $15,257.

“We have some of those in the inventory and have had for many years within the SWAT team and other functions in the department,” Evans said. “But we’re trying to outfit the entire department with that piece of equipment.”

Evans said that the ten tasers and 22 shotguns are life cycle replacements. The budgeted items will be purchased for about $10,065 and $12,167 respectively.

“Many of the shotguns we’ve had we’ve probably had for well over 25 years,” Evans said. “And some of those are no longer in service and we have to periodically replace those.”

City Council approved the purchases at its meeting Thursday night. Evans said that most of the items are in stock, and doesn’t expect too much difficulty getting the equipment.
