The Overton County Sheriff’s Department searching for one of its K-9 units that has ran away.
Sheriff John Garrett said K-9 Bella escaped from her handlers property Tuesday night while off shift.
“She had done some damage to the pin which has been provided for her to stay in, and we had to resort back to a chain,” Garrett said. “She was able, to our knowledge to what we can find, to break the clasp on that chain and escape.”
Garrett said the K-9’s last whereabouts was Bilbrey Road in Livingston. Garrett said the department has searched the immediate area extensively.
“We’ve never had this happen before, but it is very concerning,” Garrett said. “There’s a lot of time and dollars that has went into this dog and a lot of training. I hope she is found soon.”
Garrett said the narcotics/tracking dog is a Belgian Malinois with two-toned brown fur standing at about 30 inches. Bella was wearing a collar with the sheriff’s office information.
“Our K-9s serve a very important role here to the sheriff’s office,” Garrett said. “We just hope for a speedy return.”
Garrett said the department asks the public to contact the office if you have seen the dog. Garrett said Bella was purchased four years ago through the department’s drug fund meaning tax money was not used.
