Gainesboro To Get Almost $50 K In FEMA Reimbursements

Gainesboro will be reimbursed about $49,000 from FEMA for the town’s response to last year’s flood.

Mayor Lloyd Williams said the town will receive $19,000 for water line repairs and $20,000 split between road and cemetery repairs.

“It was for the storm we had,” Williams said. “One grant helped with the repairs of the water lines and the other helped with the cemetery fence. It got blown done. We appreciate what FEMA has done for us.”

The Gainesboro Board of Aldermen approved a sole bid for the grading and graveling of Ash Lane and Brown Lane. The Board also approved a bid for fence work at Gainesboro Cemetery on Ash Lane.

“They worked hard to get us some FEMA money,” Williams said. “They’ve put a lot of effort in it.”

Williams said the work should be completed in a few months. Town Clerk Lisa Dodson said the work needs to be completed before October to gain the reimbursement. Dodson said the the town could seek an extension if needed.

The work for the roads was open for bids two weeks. Only one contractor submitted.
