The Monterey Downtown Incorporated Board has reformed.

The group consists of local business owners that want to grow the town’s economic opportunities. Mayor Nathan Walker said the committee has worked over the last several months to resurrect the board.

“There was a lot of business owners, a lot of business leaders here in our community that actually asked for it to be revived,” Walker said. “That they wanted a group that would be proactive in helping bring development, investors and get the business community back communicating.”

Walker said he was involved with the original board for many years. Walker said a lot of the original members retired, and the committee eventually faded away. Walker said the group has helped organize events such as the Spring on the Mountain, beautified the downtown area and created signs for local businesses.

“We had several really good projects there years ago,” Walker said. “Storefront windows, planters, benches downtown, those type of things.”

Walker said the group of business minded people will meet monthly. Walker said an issue they want to address is communicating information to the community.

“Here in Monterey one issue that we definitely have is the means of everybody to mass communicate and know what’s going on and know what kind of events are happening,” Walker said. “This is a perfect conduit to make all that kind of happen.”
