The Warren County Board of Education has increased longevity bonuses for teachers.

“Our school board sees that we want to reward those employees that want to stick with our district,” Swallows said. “I do appreciate them taking the initiative. I do believe people will want to stay in Warren County because of it.”

Swallows said he believes the decision to double the bonus comes from hiring competition in the teacher world. Swallows said districts are constantly increases wages or benefits.

At the same time, applications for new teachers have been on the decline for several school systems. Swallows said the board wants to do what they can to recruit and retain teachers.
