Putnam Building Numbers Set New Record In April

Building permits for the month of April in Putnam County set an all-time record.

According to Mayor Randy Porter,  April numbers showed 46 permits for $9.2 million, with 22 of those being new single family residential homes. April of 2021 had 40 permits for $6.6 million, with 22 being new homes.

The all-time record for any month was March 2021 with 52 permits for $11.4 million. These numbers exclude the four cities in Putnam County

So far this fiscal year, July 2021 thru April 2022, we have 346 permits for $67.2 million with 197 of those being for new single family residential homes. This broke the previous record for total cost of construction which was last fiscal year with $61 million.

“With two more months to go in the fiscal year, looks like we will break last year’s record for total number of permits also, if construction continues at this pace,” Porter said in a release. “All of this in the face of higher mortgage rates and building costs.”
