Thursday is the 71st annual National Day of Prayer.
Over 60,000 events with more than 3 million people participating will take place across the country. Putnam County Coordinator Marcia Mullins said the Upper Cumberland region can participate by attending a prayer service at the county courthouse.
“It is a time for everyone just to be together, to fellowship and pray as one,” Mullins said. “The bible encourages us to be one and pray for each other.”
Mullins said this year’s theme is “Exalt the Lord who has established us” from Colossians 2:6-7. Mullins said individuals will pray over seven topics: government, military, education, families, media, economy, Israel and churches.
“There will also be small groups of prayer afterwards for people that want prayer or want to pray with others,” Mullins said. “It’s just a good time of unity.”
Mullins said worship will begin at 11:30 a.m. on the south lawn of the Putnam County Courthouse. Mullins said in the event of rain, the event will move to the commission chambers on the 3rd floor.
“It’s so good to have pastors and people come together as one to pray for our nation,” Mullins said. “We invite everyone to come out and participate.”
Mullins said she has participated in the event for 20 years. Before that, Tim Frank from Stevens Street Baptist Church lead the Day of Prayer.
