The Sparta Board of Aldermen approved the city’s new fiscal year budget Thursday night.

City Administrator Brad Hennessee said the city will allow up to a month period of public comment on the spending before final approval. Hennessee said a public hearing will also be scheduled.

Hennessee said the budget will be voted on its final reading in June. The spending plan includes a five percent employee raise, city hall improvements and several parks and recreation upgrades.
