Cookeville City Council Member Mark Miller said that he believes commercial flight at Upper Cumberland Regional Airport should be a legislative priority.
After a recent feasibility study deemed sufficient demand for commercial flight activity, Miller said that the possibility could open endless economic and marketing opportunities for the city.
“You’re sitting in the Atlanta airport, you’re sitting in the Charlotte airport, you’re sitting in the Chicago airport and you’re looking up at the terminal screen and it says ‘Cookeville, Tennessee,’” Miller said. “There are a lot of people that don’t know where Cookeville, Tennessee is, so it could just open us up to the world.”
Miller said that it also opens up the region economically as it makes it more easily accessible. He said that although Cookeville is only a quarter-owner of the airport, he wants the city to do what it can to offer its support to the airport.
“Whenever the airport finds out what they need I hope they come to the city and hopefully we can do whatever we need to do,” Miller said. “Financial support, material support, we have to make this a reality for our city and for our future.”
