Applications are now live for Crossville’s Friend of the Trails’ first-ever Hike Fest.
President John Conrad said that they created the event after the success of the fall Hike-a-Thon. He said that the participants can choose from five trails in Cumberland County and hike at their own pace during the last week in May.
“To encourage you to get out, get some exercise and enjoy the beautiful countryside that we have in Cumberland County,” Conrad said. “It’s a very modest fee, the $5 and we’re splitting it 50/50. Half of the fee will go towards building more trails.”
Conrad said that the other half will go to Kids On the Rise, a local mentoring program for youth in Cumberland County.
Conrad said at the end of Hike Fest, there will be a picnic at Meadow Creek Park to celebrate National Trails Day on June 4th. He said that there are trails suitable for both beginner and veteran hikers alike.
“Certainly some of the trails like Soldier’s Beach at Meadow Park is about 1.5 miles long so that’s very doable for beginners,” Conrad said. “The Maryetta trail in Crossville are very reasonable (…) We’re not saying that you have to do all of the trails. If you’re a beginner, maybe just one of them or two of them, or you can choose your own level of comfort in doing this.”
Conrad said that you can register online at crossvilletrails.com. He said that registration will close before the week-long Hike Fest begins on May 28th.
