TennGreen Requires Monterey To Restore Plants After Bee Rock Work

Monterey will be responsible for planting native plants around the Bee Rock easement after clearing too far past the boundaries.

TennGreen Land Conservancy owns the easement. Monterey Mayor Nathan Walker said the entity sent a letter to the town regarding improvements made to the parking area.

“They were actually very nice, and they just kind of reiterated that they would like to be consulted or at least know when we are doing things like that,” Walker said. “In all fairness, we did go a little far.”

Walker as well as Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary met with an official from the conservancy. Clearly said a city employee conducted the work, but the easement owner was not upset.

Cleary said the town’s email system switching caused a recent communication break down between the town and conservancy group.

“To be completely honest, there was a total communication break down in the past year and a half,” Cleary said. “Because they acted confused about the construction of the bathroom facility. They had no idea that had been constructed.”

Walker said in the future, the boundaries should be better marked. Walker said the state has sent a list of native vegetation that can be planted.

“It’s done. We’re past it,” Walker said. “They’re okay with where we are at right now.”
