Pikeville Church Seeking Community Feedback On Reopening Christian School

Parents across Van Buren County area being surveyed to see if there is interest to reestablish a Christian School.

Sampson Freewill Baptist in Pikeville once operated a school, but lack of students closed it in 2012. Pastor Jamey Pack said some 20 families say they are interested in the school reopening.

“We’re in the very early stages right now,” Pack said. “I haven’t met with the Fire Marshall to see what we would have to do with the building to get it up to code. We’re still looking at curriculum and things like that.”

Pack said the goal is to become a state accredited school and provide education up to a high school diploma. Pack said three certified teachers have already expressed interest in working at the school.

“In the area, there has been some more interest in maybe reopening the school,” Pack said. “I guess due to the things way are now in public education, and in the area, the fear of where it may be going.”

Pack said a public meeting has been scheduled for June 16th at the church for those wanting more information. Pack said the church group will talk about curriculum and expectations of the school.

“There is quite a bit interest, and we expect that to grow,” Pack said.

Pack said the school building is located on the Sampson Freewill Baptist campus. Students in Van Buren and Bledsoe Counties are the target.
