The Clay County School Board approved its proposed budget Thursday night for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
Director of Schools Diana Monroe said that the main focus during this year’s budget process was increasing teacher salaries.
“All of our teacher assistants, cooks, bus drivers, everybody non-certified, they all needed raises as bad as teachers do,” Monroe said. “And we value greatly, the school board values greatly, what they do for the children of Clay County on a daily basis.”
Monroe said that non-certified personnel will receive a 13.5 percent increase across the board. She said that certified teachers will receive a five percent salary rate as recommended by the state for Clay County.
The total operating revenue is looking at almost $11.2 million compared to last year’s $10.9 million. The proposed expenditures are some $11.8 million compared to last year’s $11.9 million. The school board’s budget will be considered by the Clay County Commission for approval.
“We have a great county commission and lots of faith in their credibility and I’m sure they will approve our budget because it is such a great budget,” Monroe said.
