Clay County is working to revamp its Clay County Cultural and Performing Arts Center movement after COVID.

Courthouse Curator Thomas Watson said that what started as an Arts Commission grant for a marble museum has turned into a greater project to highlight the culture and heritage of Clay County.

“We have thousands and thousands of vehicles that come through Celina every day but most of them are on the wya to Dale Hollow Lake or coming home from Dale Hollow Lake,” Watson said. “And we have got to have a reason to get them to pull over and to take a look.”

Watson said that much of the work was made possible through their consultant, Claudia Johnson. He said that with knowledge of the area and historian background, she was able to come up with ideas that both celebrated and honored significant figures and events in the county.

Watson said that they kicked off the movement with a concert featuring music from local songwriter Lola Jean Dillon. He said that they have plans to host more festivals, concerts, and plays.
