Celina Adds New Mural To Downtown Area

The City of Celina has a new mural in its downtown area.

Clay County Chamber of Commerce Director Doug Young said that the mural highlights another aspect of Clay County outside of Dale Hollow Lake. He said that the mural depicts the farmland and gives a nod to the Clay County Bulldogs.

“You always need some color in your downtown area,” Young said. “And our downtown area wasn’t very colorful so it’s a fantastic use of old building space that’s just sitting there. You put a nice scene on it and it can catch people’s attention.”

Young said that the mural was made possible through a Tennessee Arts Commission grant. He said it was painted by Manny Fuentes, who has completed murals throughout the Upper Cumberland.

Young said that this brings Celina’s downtown mural total to two. He said that they are hopeful to add more to the downtown area, partly to increase traffic for the mural pathway across the state.

“I understand that across the state we have a quilt trail, and people travel across the state and see the quilts painted on barns and those geometric designs,” Young said. “And now they’re putting together a mural trail so you can go across the state of Tennessee to the various places. And they like to take their picture with the murals. And two of our downtown murals are situated where they can do just that.”
