Cookeville Purchases 10 More Acres Of Land To Expand Cane Creek Park

Cookeville set to expand Cane Creek Park by another 10 acres.

City Council approved the purchase of the property at its meeting Thursday night. Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said that the property will bring the total expansion of Cane Creek Park to almost 42 acres in just two years.

“This will be sued primarily for green area, green space, and typical passive park uses,” Woods said. “Not necessarily active park uses.”

Woods said that the department has plans in place to utilize the previously purchased 31 acres to put in additional parking, and expand its current trails. He said that this new acreage could be used to play a part in that.

Woods said that the next step will be to finalize the purchase. He said that the property comes from the same landowners who donated the original 31 acres.

“This is another parcel that adjoins that property and Cane Creek Park as well,” Woods said. “This is just another way for us to continue looking for ways to expand the park and to enhance the park.”
