TTU Alumni Competing On “Forged In Fire” Tonight

A Tennessee Tech alumni will make his television debut Wednesday in the newest episode of “Forged with Fire.”

Four bladesmiths compete in a three-round elimination contest to forge bladed weapons, with the overall winner receiving $10,000.

Blacksmith Joshua Foran said he always had an interest in making things with his hands, but he first got into metal work about four years ago while attending the university.

“While I was there, I took machining classes. I took wielding classes. I even took metal casting,” Foran said. “I love fabricating things, and I joined the formula SEA team that they have at Tennessee Tech.”

While working on the motorsport team, his interest in metal fabrication began. Foran said after he graduated and moved to Alabama, he took the next step by finding a forge council where he smithed his first pieces.

“I made a couple of S hooks, and it was all down hill from there,” Foran said. “I built myself a forge and was gifted a piece of railroad track from one of the guys at Alabama Forge Council and that was my first anvil.”

Foran said he has of course upgraded his shop since then, but one thing remains unchanged.

“I made my hammer at the Alabama Forge Council, and I still use that hammer to this day,” Foran said.

Foran currently resides in Alabama where him and his wife operate Josh of All Trades Blacksmithing. Foran said his work is usually geared to cutlery and tools.

Tune in to the History Channel at 8:00 p.m. to see Foran compete.
