The Town of Livingston is working on debris cleanup following a major storm Saturday night.
Mayor Curtis Hayes said that most of the damage was inside the town’s corporate limits due to downed trees and straight-line winds. Hayes said that the National Weather Service called the storm cell a “Micro Burst.”
“It began north of Livingston in the Little Eagle Creek area and traveled south into Livingston with the excess of 80 miles per hour,” Hayes said. “We’re guestimating over $2 million worth of damage to businesses and homes.”
Hayes said that the estimate comes from the property values of the damaged buildings. He said that the city is currently in a state of emergency to allow the city to accept and burn debris.
“We’re asking all city residents that have any debris due to the storm to put it on the right-of-way or the curbside in front of their home and we will come take it from there,” Hayes said. “But we have got a lot. So we ask folks to be patient with us and we’re working as fast and as hard as we can to get all of the debris up.”
Hayes said that no injuries have been reported at this time. He said that when the storm first hit, approximately 1,500 people were without power and water. Currently, he said some 30 customers are still without power.
“The electricity went down which hit our water pumping stations in the Monroe and Alpine area so we probably had bout 1,500 customers without water for about eight to 10 hours, maybe longer” “Long enough that we could get generators to get our water tanks back up so we could supply water to our community.”
Hayes said that all city streets are back open at this point in time. He said that the city has also activated the American Red Cross, and anyone who needs assistance can reach them at 1-800-733-2767.
