Overton School Lunches Returning To Traditional Style

Overton School lunches seeing changes to next year’s serving style after the FDA recommends a return to the traditional serving style.

School Nutrition Supervisor Debie Taylor said that the system adapted to pandemic protocols and that returning to normal will hopefully ease the work for employees.

“We had to package everything and deliver it to the rooms and that’s a lot of extra work and it’s a lot of extra cost for the disposable supplies,” Taylor said. “So it should be easier on us to have things like it was before COVID. Where kids can sit down and visit with one another while they’re having lunch.”

Taylor said another change will come from a recently passed bill that gets rid of reduced lunch prices, leaving students eligible for either free or full-priced meals. She said those students who previously qualified for reduced lunch prices can now get lunch for free.

Taylor said that the most important thing for parents and students to do with this process is to fill out an application. She said that applications will open on July 5th.
