Jackson County looking to bid for a new trash truck.
Mayor Randy Heady said that the truck would replace the county’s current 2004 model.
“It does a good job it’s still on the road today but it does have some breakdown issues,” Heady said. “So we’re wanting to replace that one and maybe in a couple of years we’ve got one more that we need to replace and then hopefully we’ll be set several years.”
Heady said that quotes they’ve received for the trucks range from $305,000 to almost $320,000. He said that the purchase will be covered by about $200,000 or more in ARP funds and the rest from USDA grant money.
“The key here is that it does not cost the taxpayers of Jackson County any money,” Heady said. “We’re not using any local money for this, we’re going outside and bringing in other resources of funding to do that. And at the same time, some people might say why are you going for a grant, it’s because my goal and the commission’s goal, we’re in this together, is to make the ARP money go as far as we can. And really making purchases or doing projects that are beneficial to the community for years to come, not just a one-time thing.”
Heady said that the truck’s estimated delivery date is in January. He said that it’s important to the county to get the truck as soon as possible to make sure their trash pick-up is running efficiently.
Heady said the county commission approved Heady to solicit bids through a Sourcewell contract.
