Federal Grant Opportunity Open For Road Safety Projects

A new grant funding opportunity open to local governments funding safe street projects.

UCDD Executive Director Mark Farley said the money would be used for county or city roads with regular car accidents.

“It does not run through the department of transportation at the state level,” Farley said. “It is direct, federal funds that would come down from the federal highway administration. It is very unique that it is a funding stream that our local governments can then take to address safety issues on both county roads or city streets.”

Farley said the applications will be open until September. Farley said the dollar amount awarded depends on the competitiveness as the federal government has a set amount for Tennessee.

“We have several communities that are interested,” Farley said.
