Cookeville City Council Honors Former Codes Director Jeff Littrell

Cookeville City Council posthumously honored long-time Codes Director Jeff Littrell Thursday night.

Littrell passed away in May. He served the city for some 32 years, 25 as the first Codes Director. City Manager James Mills:

“On May 29th we lost Jeff and he was long-time Director of our Codes Department,” Mills said. “Jeff was not only our friend, but he was a very valuable member of our city staff and we will miss him greatly.”

In the city’s resolution honoring Littrell, Vice Mayor Laurin Wheaton detailed Littrell’s contribution to the city including the progressive implementation of its computer operation and graphic information system, and his participation in many community organizations such as the Master Gardener’s Club, the Masonic Lodge, and Habitat for Humanity.

Council Member Charles Womack said when he thinks of Jeff Littrell, he thinks of the city. He said that Littrell will be sorely missed. Council Member Eric Walker said that Littrell played an impactful role in his career journey.

“When I lost my father I was in the middle of a large construction project with him and we were faced with having to continue this project without him in a hard time,” Walker said. “And I will have to say with securing a new contractor and working with the Codes Department Mr. Littrell took me in without knowing who I am other than knowing who my father had been and just helped me as a young person really needing help.

“And went on, after that project was done and I had more experience under my belt, he actually signed my letter to get my contractors and that really meant a lot to me.”

Council Member Mark Miller said that he and his wife and served with Littrell in multiple civic organizations and that Littrell was never without a smile and kind demeanor.
