White Co Schools TCAP Scores Bounce Back

It was a rebound year for the White County School System as the district’s TCAP scores saw gains across the board.

Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the data was a “pleasant surprise.” One in particular was 4th grade math.

“That’s exciting, because that’s something that has been a low area across the state for the past several years and certainly here in White County,” Dronebarger said. “We’ve kind of broken the scores down. In comparison as we look around the Upper Cumberland and compared to our peers, in 4th grade math we scored second in the Upper Cumberland.”

Dronebarger said the majority of grade levels ranked among the top five districts in the Upper Cumberland. The data shows growth in ELA, Science and Social Studies. As for state averages, Dronebarger said the county’s data was comparable.

“We are right there if not above the state in a vast majority of our categories,” Dronebarger said. “In comparison to the Upper Cumberland as well we consistently scored in the top five of most categories or grade levels in the main subject areas. We were even number one in some areas.

Dronebarger said the test results will now be used to move personnel in areas that need work. Dronebarger said curriculum supervisors will work with teachers to ensure students continue improving.

“We want to move our folks that are in the approaching or below into that “met expectation” level,” Dronebarger said. “We got some levels there that are areas of concern that we want to grow, but we certainly see a lot more green than red if we look at our charts. We are encouraged in what we are seeing.”
