S. Jefferson Waterline Replacement Held Up By Inability To Get Pipes

Cookeville’s South Jefferson Avenue widening project is underway, including replacing the waterline.

Water Quality Department Director Barry Turner said that contractors are working to put casing pipe under South Jefferson at different parts.

“We have an old waterline put in there too that was put in about 1970,” Turner said. “But some of it would have been up in the new road so we had to move it outside of the road way and replace it from the interstate all the way down to Highway 111.”

Turner said that the project has run into some hiccups due to the inability to get supplies. He said that the contractor is unable to get the ductile iron pipe to actually replace the line, so nothing has been put in even though the project itself is active.

Turner said the contractor expects some of the product to come in October. He said although the timeline is held up, there is still plenty of work for contractors to complete in the meantime.
