Putnam Kindergarten Transitional Days Start August 1

Putnam County Schools helping to ease Kindergarteners into school through transition days.

PreK to 4th Grade Instructional Supervisor Diana Wood said that the five days will allow students to attend school in smaller groups and for shorter days. In this way, she said they hope to make the prospect of school a little less intimidating.

“We have found that students respond better to new situations in small group settings,” Wood said. “So coming in those first few days in small groups gives them the chance to explore their classroom and meet a few of their classmates just a few at time.”

Wood said that way, when they come together as a large group for the first time they’ll have familiar faces. Parents can also play a role in the success of their kids as they start school.

“Just having conversations with them in a positive manner and just being excited for them and talk about maybe when they went to school and bringing in those positive experiences,” Wood said. “Talk about what they’ll be able to learn throughout their school career, who they’ll meet, and getting involved with their school. I think that’s a great way to get kids excited about going to school.”

Wood said that each school is in charge of sending out its own schedules to parents. The first small group day will be on August 1st.
