Warren Schools Working Proactively For School Safety

The Director of Warren County Schools wants to reassure parents that the system is being proactive in keeping school buildings safe.

After recent events like in Uvalde, Grant Swallows said that he knows school safety is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. He said while they cannot share everything, he wants parents to know they have safety measures in place in the classroom such as Nightlock Lockdown security door stoppers.

“It is aluminum grade steel and it’s very heavy duty and it installs right there on the door frame,” Swallows said. “And it’s designed to keep the door from opening at all with anyone trying to get in.”

Swallows said that they have tried to install them in all classrooms. He said that it’s just one more step they can do to ensure the community that they are proactive about the safety of students and employees.

Swallows said that they recently announced that Warren County Schools were one of the first in the state to locally make the commitment of putting SROs at each school. He said that they’ve also worked with local emergency partners to upgrade radio systems as well.

“Typically in school systems we don’t go out and shout this from the roof tops, but with it being on everyone’s minds we want to make sure everyone knows it’s on our minds too,” Swallows said.

“So often schools take a bad rap of they’re not doing anything, and not being proactive (…) We do a lot of those things and I think that goes unnoticed and we really want our parents and our community to know that we may not be perfect, and we do make mistakes, we are working to make sure our kids and our students stay safe.”
