Cookeville’s Tennessee Avenue Reopened To Traffic

Cookeville’s Tennessee Avenue is back open to through traffic as of Friday morning.

The road was closed in March due to heavy truck traffic and utility extension work deteriorating the road. City Manager James Mills:

“They have the binder surface placed on the roads this week and we decided to go ahead and reopen it so traffic could start flowing again,” Mills said. “We still have to put the final surfacing on and that will happen in the next few weeks.”

Mills said that work will require temporary closures, but there will not be another extended closure. He said the city asks that drivers exercise caution as traffic begins along that road again.

“I know this has been a long process and has been very inconvenient for many people, but we’re nearing the final completion of it,” Mills said. “Again we’ll have the final surfacing done within the next few weeks, and then it will be entirely complete.”
