One Vote Decides White Co Commission Race, New Sparta Mayor Elected


Just a single vote decided the election in the White County Commission District 1 race on Thursday.

Chris Brewington beat out Emilie Austin Roberts 271-270 to take the second seat in District 1. Cain L. Rogers won the first seat with 364 votes.

In District 2, Jordan Cocke and Thomas Margeson take the two seats. Cocke with 54% of the vote and Margeson with 33%.

Derrick Hutchings and Roger Mason Jr. will be the two county commissioners in District 6. Hutchings won the first seat with 43% of the vote and Mason with 38%.

There will be a new mayor in the City of Sparta. Jerry Lowery beat out incumbent Jeff Young. Lowery won with 59% of the vote.

In the Aldermen at Large race, 5 candidates were up for 3 spots with the third spot being decided by four votes. Travis McBride beat out Hoyt Jones 430-426 for third place. Jim Floyd was the top vote getter with 25% of the votes and Robert (Bobby) G. Officer in second with 445 votes.

Republican Lori Jones will be the Register of Deeds in White County as she won with 74% of the vote beating out Lee Hitchcock.

In the road superintendent race, Jerry Sawyer won with 64% of the vote beating out Chris Goines.
