Monterey Aldermen Approve Purchase Of Used Patrol Vehicles

The Monterey Police Department will purchase two used patrol vehicles in the coming weeks.

Chief Bill Randolph said a combination of a newly hired officer and aging vehicles caused the need.

“We got four new Durangos last year and are expected to order some more new ones later on in the fall this year or closer to winter time, but we’re short a couple decent vehicles, so I’m going to try and buy a couple used vehicles to try and get us through,” Randolph said.

Randolph said he tries to keep 10 vehicles in the fleet with a couple of back ups. Randolph said he plans to use vendors that the city regularly works with to recondition used service vehicles.

Randolph said he wants to have the used cars purchases by next week, but the market may delay that. Randolph said the department will not use tax revenue to purchase the vehicles.

The Monterey Board of Aldermen approved the purchase earlier this month. The police department also purchase four new vehicles last fiscal year.
