White Co Election Results To Be Certified This Week

Despite a White County Commission race decided by one vote, there has been no challenges to last week’s election.

Election Administrator Dorcus Marcum said election results are set to be certified on August 16thTuessday at 5:00 p.m.

“We are about half way through our paper work, so once we get that done, I’ll prepare the certification documents and have them ready for next Tuesday night,” Marcum said.

Chris Brewington beat out Emilie Austin Roberts 271-270 to take the second seat in District one. Cain Rodgers won the first seat by about 90 votes.

Marcum said the process to certify the vote begins on Election night. Marcum said the election office reads the voting drives and matches the results to the tally tapes from each precinct. Marcum said once that is completed, the final certification documents are prepared for election commissioners.

“We send those certification results to the state, the county and the city,” Marcum said.

Marcum said about 4,400 people voted with no issues at the polls. Marcum said the county also did not have any provisional ballots this year, which is unusual.
