White Co Studying Landfill To Open New Cell

White County currently diverting trash to evaluate the life span of its class one landfill.

County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said there will be no interruptions in services. Robinson said the county is just trying to get a new cell permitted.

“We’ve got to see where we are at, and how close we are to being at the end,” Robinson said. “You have to cap it and get preparations done for that and then just anything else. Hopefully, we won’t find anything, but we want to go through it to make sure it is still operating.”

Robinson said only compacted trash is being diverted to Warren County. Robinson said the county’s engineering firm and solid waste director are leading the evaluation. Robinson said there is not a timeline of when it would be completed.

The county started the process of opening a new landfill cell two years ago. At that time, an environmental study was conducted for a 10 acre cell. Robinson said this is the next step to time the project.
