Pickett School Board Seat To Be Decided In November Election

Pickett County’s third district school board seat will be decided in a run off election in November.

Incumbent Travis Parrott and Candidate Gary Stover tied with 193 votes in the August Election. Election Administrator Tim Clark said the county commission voted this week to add the race to the ballot.

“This is the first time that I can recall it ever happening and one of our election commission members who has been on the seat for a long time said this is the first time that he can recall it happening also,” Clark said.

Clark has served as election administrator since 2009. Clark said the close race shows just how important a single vote can be in a local election.

“Since we had a tie vote, the people will get to vote again for this race,” Clark said. “It’s very very important, because every single vote counts.”

Clark said run off elections are the same format as any other election. Clark said it is just an extra step to allow the people to select their school board representative.
