Pickett County Schools has received its shipment of new LED lights that will be installed in the high school next week.

Director of Schools Diane Elder said a TVA grant the system received over a year ago will fund the $100,000 project.

“When you walk down the hall, everything is just different colors,” Elder said. “All the lights range anywhere from a soft light to a bright light and we want to make everything else looks more uniform. Plus the LEDs are guaranteed for us to last five years.”

Elder said the project should help an expensive problem with the high school. Elder said the system has to regularly replace the current lighting. Elder said it will also save on energy consumption.

“We hope to not have to spend so much money constantly changing out the lights,” Elder said. “I think it will be better for everybody involved and give us a brighter, cleaner light.”

Elder said the project will replace lights in all classrooms, offices and hallways. Elder said the project will not interfere with learning. Elder said the contractor will come install the lights once classes are dismissed.

“Everything will be cleaned up and be ready for us to have school,” Elder said. “It should only take them about five to seven days.”
