Warren Schools Creates Safety And Security Coordinator Position

Warren County Schools have created a new position of School Safety and Security Coordinator to start on September 1st.

Director of Schools Grant Swallows said that Lieutenant Ray Robinson will fill the role. He said many school districts have had a renewed emphasis on school safety, and that this position was one way to showcase what Warren Schools have already been working on.

“Lots of school districts are putting a renewed emphasis on school safety and really being able to say here’s what we’ve been doing,” Swallows said. “We started this work years ago, so we’re trying to bring lots of the different areas we’ve been working on with school safety under one umbrella, is what I was interested in with this position.”

Swallows said Robinson will be able to streamline facets of school safety, including grants, security checks, and more.

The new position is part of a greater desire to continue an emphasis on school safety. Swallows said that Robinson has spent the last 33 years living in Warren County, with more than 30 years of experience with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and 25 years as the Director of Pupil Transportation.

“Really what sold me on this is that Lieutenant Robinson played for UT and he’s a big guy,” Swallows said with a laugh. “Since he’s retired he’s been at some of our elementary school subbing, and in pre-K and Kindergarten he gets down on the floor with them and they love him. He just cares about kids and that’s ultimately why he took this position because he cares about kids and wants to keep them safe.”
