The Monterey Street Committee identified seven to eight roads in need of paving Thursday.
The committee was unable to vote on official business since a quorum was not met. Committee Chair Coonie Foster still presented a list of roads for the city to target.
“Most of these right here really do need it,” Foster said. “We got the money, so we need to go ahead and do it before winter time if we can. You know take bids out.”
Portions of Minnie Avenue, Romine Avenue, Callahan Road, Speck Avenue, Lewis Lane, Rose Avenue, Poplar Road and Ford Street were identified. Mayor Nathan Walker said the next step would be creating a priority list and determining how much money to spend.
“Identifying the list to begin with is good, but prioritizing things and figuring out how much money we will be able to have to put towards that is going to be where we’re going to be at as far as what we are bidding out, how we’re bidding it and the details of footage and how long of areas are we talking about paving,” Walker said.
Walker recommended a ride through of the city’s roads to determine the streets most in need. Walker said the city has about $200,000 in street funds.
