Two New Student Clubs Coming To JMS

Jackson County Middle School is getting two new clubs in Junior Beta and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Principal Gary Tinsley said two teachers approached him over the summer wanting to start the student groups.

“One of them her daughter had participated in Middle School and High School and that it really helped her with scholarships with the Junior Beta Club, so she is doing some preliminary work,” Tinsley said.

Tinsley said the clubs have both received school board approval, so meetings should begin this school year. Tinsley said invitations are going out to students to gauge interest.

“They’re going to come meet with me and get the invitations ready to go out to students,” Tinsley said. “We hope to get up and running in just a couple of weeks.”

Tinsley said it’s all about offering more opportunities for students to grow their skills.

“Especially in a small county,” Tinsley said. “There’s not tons of opportunities, so anything we can do to give them extra opportunities. Especially Junior Beta Club for example. They can now go to high school and be in Beta Club. That helps with scholarships and helps in the workforce and gives them some leadership.”
