Algood Police Officer Calls Lifesavers Conference “Empowering”

Algood Police Officer Matthew Pennycuff called the 34th annual Tennessee Lifesavers Conference “empowering.”

This year marked Pennycuff’s second time attending the conference, his first with the Algood Police Department. Pennycuff said there were courses on everything from child safety to the newest trends in impaired driving.

“In law enforcement, a lot of times our job is to put people that commit a crime in jail, and that is our job, however, our role as law enforcement officers encompasses more than just that,” Pennycuff said. “Just something as simple as a traffic stop, doing different events to get out in our community.”

Pennycuff said the conference is good for new and veteran officers alike. He said it’s important for law enforcement officials to learn about the state of law enforcement in Tennessee to best serve their communities.

Pennycuff’s focus in this year’s conference was on child passenger safety. He said he attained his certification to install car seats and had the opportunity to attend a pre-conference to discuss new car seat technology and different technology trends.
