Warren County has been awarded a $5.5 million state grant for proposed drinking water and wastewater projects.
The money comes through the state’s allocation of ARP money meant for water infrastructure improvement. County Commission Chair Blaine Wilcher said a total of five projects are planned.
“Feels really good, because if we didn’t have this ARP money to help with this, you can do the math,” Wilcher said. “That eventually would reflect on everyone in those district’s bills because you have to pay for these improvements.”
Drinking water projects include the construction of a new storage tank and repairing or replacing aging distribution lines. The wastewater projects include collection line repairs, installing new pump stations and expanding sewer connections to unversed communities.
Wilcher said the next step after the grant award is up in the air. Wilcher said with a new county executive and several new commissioners, the plan moving forward will need to be discussed.
This grant is a non-collaborative grant meaning no other cities, counties or utility districts are helping with the local match.
