Super Bowl Of Marbles At Standing State State Park Happening Saturday

Standing Stone State Park preparing for the 39th annual National Rolley Hole Marbles Championship and Festival this Saturday.

Park Ranger Shawn Hughes said park staff are spending the week setting up for the “Super Bowl of Marbles” that brings tournament play and other festivities that go with it.

“I think what it represents is special,” Hughes said. “To be able to help these traditions to survive. At one point in time, many people played marbles. You don’t really hear about it anymore.”

Hughes said 15 teams will compete this year for the main championship with other smaller tournaments happening at the same time. Hughes said the park has a 40 by 25 foot dirt marble yard that will host the games.

Hughes said marbles remain a large pastime of Celina and surrounding areas where a lot of the greatest players originate. Hughes said the community is welcome to view the games and take part in other activities. Hughes said seven hours of live music is scheduled as well as vendors and marble-making demonstrations.
