Cookeville’s Spring Street Sidewalk Project Officially Begins

The first phase of the Spring Street sidewalk project has started construction.

Cookeville City Manager James Mills said the city received grant funding for the project over eight years ago.

“Originally, we were going to get the whole thing done from Old Kentucky Road to downtown for 1.2 million,” Mills said. “That won’t even cover this first segment now, so thanks again to TDOT. They’ve let us apply for a second grant to help cover that.”

Mills said that means the city will likely have to put more money into the project to match the grant if awarded. The first phase of this project includes Old Kentucky Road to Raider Drive.

Mills said drivers will notice flags along the road where the work is being conducted. In the next phase, Raider Drive to Denton Avenue would be the focus.
