Shady Brady Memorial Ride Honors The Life Of Sparta Firefighter

The eighth annual Shady Brady Memorial Ride will be coming through Sparta this Saturday.

The late Sparta Firefighter Barry Brady started the motorcycle ride in 2015. His wife Dawn Brady said the Tennessee Fireman’s Association continues the fundraiser in his memory.

“This is just something that my husband wanted to do for the Fallen Firefighter Memorial,” Brady said. “He was a board member for many years, and it was something that was very dear to his heart. It was something that started simple and has just grown.”

Brady said over 100 vehicles now participate in the event. All of the funds raised are donated to the Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. Brady said the event helps maintain the site while also raising cancer awareness.

Rider will meet at the Sparta Fire Department on North Spring Street and roll out at 9:00 a.m.

Barry Brady was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2018. Thirty days after his passing in 2019, Governor Bill Lee signed the Barry Brady Act which provides compensation to firefighters who acquire certain types of cancer as a result of being in the fire service.
