Upper Cumberland Celebrating Hispanic Heritage With Dogwood Park Festival

Community members are invited to come celebrate and learn about Hispanic culture at the 2022 Upper Cumberland Hispanic Heritage Festival this Saturday.

Organizer Alejandra Cisneros-Conohan said the festival at Dogwood Park will feature music, dancing, and delicious foods from various countries.  Cisneros-Conohan said they wanted a chance to bring the community together to honor the diverse cultures you can find right here in the Upper Cumberland.

“Especially after COVID a lot of what we heard of was people feeling lonely, or secluded,” Cisneros-Conohan said. “And part of what’s so beautiful about the Hispanic culture is that it’s very much about the family, about community and taking care of each other, so it just felt like the perfect thing to bring.”

The free event takes place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cisneros-Conohan said discussions for the festival original took place pre-COVID with Hip Cookeville’s Facebook Administrator Blair Dudley. She said Dudley had connected with members of the Nashville Hispanic Chamber of Commerce about their events and was inspired to bring something similar to the area.

Cisneros-Conohan said Cookeville’s Leisure Services Department also served as a partner in making the event happen.
