Tennessee Tech’s Kappa Sigma Fraternity Earns National Recognition

Tennessee Tech’s Kappa Sigma fraternity earned national recognition as one of the top chapters in North America.

The Kappa-Mu chapter was awarded the Founders Award of Chapter Excellence (FACE), the benchmark award in the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Chapter President Nolan Burgess said it recognizes outstanding chapter management, achievement, and program development in all areas of operation.

“It just really means that we’re all one and we’re all on the same page,” Burgess said. “Trying to get our school work done, having fun, and then also making sure that we’re doing the right things for the right organizations and doing all the hard work for what it means for us to be a Kappa Sig.”

Burgess said this was only the 10th time the chapter has earned this award since it was founded in 1969.  He said that this was a result of the hours of volunteering and fundraising the organization did for South Seas, giving the fundraising dollars to the Military Heroes campaign.

TTU’s Kappa Sigma was in the top 8 out of 291 chapters and colonies in North America. Burgess said now that they have the FACE award, they have their sights set on earning the Founders Circle award, which is given to the top five chapters on the continent.

“We hope to continue down a path that makes us better people at the end of our college journey,” Burgess said. “These awards also wouldn’t have been achievable without our last officers who helped set us up to win these awards as well,” Burgess said.  “I’m very proud of this chapter and looking forward to the future.”
