Clay Commission Fills District 2 Vacancy

Clay County Commission has filled its vacant District 2 seat with the commissioner who left it vacant.

Jeff Gentry, the incumbent, ran for Sheriff and lost. County Mayor Dale Reagan said the commission decided it wanted Gentry to fill the vacancy.

“He’ll be here I’m sure at planning, and he’ll get to serve one meeting in November,” Reagan said. “And then they have the election on the Tuesday after have our meeting on Monday night.”

Reagan said that Gentry will run for the position in the November election. He was one of two candidates to qualify for the ballot.

Reagan said in these types of situations, he leaves the decision to fill a vacancy by the other commissioner of the district. District 2 Commissioner Parrish Wright made the motion to fill the seat with Gentry. The County Commission approved the decision unanimously.
