PCSO Citizen Academy Receives High-Praise From Graduate

One graduate of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Citizens’ Academy gave high-praise to the 10-week course.

About 15 citizens in total completed the program. Participant Luann Nicosia said the courses exceeded her expectations.

“I think everybody should take this, because by going through all of this it just helps you to understand their jobs,” Nicosia said. “You get to not only learn, but listen to their experiences and also interact. It just makes you appreciate our Sheriff’s Department.”

Nicosia said a big takeaway was seeing the office’s efforts to employee dedicated school resource officers to keep the school system safety. Nicosia said instructors also brought K-9 units, staged crime scenes and coordinated a SWAT team hostage response throughout the program.

“I can honestly say that I feel even more grateful to live here in this county,” Nicosia said. “I have peace in mind knowing that the Sheriff’s Office is so capable, skilled and really care about our community.”

Nicosia said after completing the course, she felt safer knowing how much is invested into public safety. Nicosia said she believes that Putnam County has one of the best Sheriff’s Office in the state.

“It’s free and they start with amazing dinner every night,” Nicosia said. “It really is worth it, and you come out of it with such a better understanding and appreciation.”
