Jackson County putting a new service truck to work on Wednesday.

Highway Administrator Daniel Garrison said the service truck will be complete with a crane to aid in heavy lifting. He said the truck will also assist around the county when other service vehicles break down.

“Our old service truck was pretty worn out and it didn’t have a crane lift,” Garrison said. “And there’s a lot of stuff that’s pretty heavy, and to save guys’ backs I was pretty set on a crane lift.”

Garrison said the truck is totally fitted with the department’s tools and equipment. He said this makes it possible for crews to provide aid as quickly as possible and with what they need.

Garrison said he was able to purchase a used vehicle for a budgeted $39,900. He said new service trucks fitted with a crane can cost upwards of $100,000.

“I went out to some sued car lots and inspected several trucks, and ended up purchasing a 2013 Ford 450,” Garrison said. “It’s a good-looking truck and I think it will do the county well.”
