Two Putnam Fires Serve As Reminders To Get HVAC Units Checked Before Turning On Heat

Putnam County fire crews responded to two calls Monday initiated by issues with heating units.

Chief Tom Brown said these kinds of calls are not uncommon as the weather starts to change.

“We normally have an uptick this time of year whenever everybody starts heating,” Brown said. “It’s always a good idea to get your units checked annually.”

Brown said one incident was the result of a burned-up motor on the HVAC unit in the Castlebrooke subdivision. He said the other was the result of a fire in the furnace in a single-wide trailer at the end of Canada Flatt Road.

Brown said it’s important to have your units in good working order prior to using them for heat. He said another key is to make sure any combustibles are far from your source of heat.
