Monterey Finance Committee Recommends Park Improvements Through ARP Funds

The Monterey Finance Committee has recommended the majority of the city’s remaining federal COVID money to be used for park improvements.

Committee Chair Bill Wiggins said members decided that Whitaker Park needs new playground equipment.

“That will include replacing some dilapidated and dangerous metal fixtures down there,” Wiggins said. “We want to upgrade that park and the playground in particular.”

Wiggins said the committee recommends some $230,000 be earmarked for the project. Wiggins said the project would leave about $47,000 that would be used for the Black Bottom Sports Complex project.

“Which we are underway now,” Wiggins said. ‘We got a survey, and we have a plan of what we want to do there to make it a multi-sport complex.”

Wiggins said the Board of Aldermen will vote for the allocation in its December meeting. Wiggins said if approved, the town’s federal COVID money would be fully spent.
